A Squamish man will remain in custody pending his next court appearance on a litany of drunk driving-related charges.
Ryan Brandon Reece, who was born in 1985, appeared before Justice William Rodgers Thursday (Sept. 12) via live video in North Vancouver Provincial Court.
He faces charges of criminal negligence causing death, impaired driving causing death and causing an accident resulting in death from a fatal Nov. 1, 2012 crash in Brackendale. Squamish resident Tanya Lee Boudewyn, the mother of two children, died in the crash. Reece was airlifted to hospital in Vancouver to be treated for his injuries.
Reece was charged after an Aug. 19 incident in Squamish for driving while disqualified, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, care or control of vehicle while impaired, flight from peace officer, failure to provide sample, willfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer, break and enter with intent to commit an offence and trespassing at night.
His next appearance is Oct. 1 in North Vancouver Provincial Court, when a date could be set for trial on the November 2012 incident.
He is set to go on trial Jan. 20 and 21, 2014, for the August incident. Crown counsel Brian MacFarlane told the court he expected a three-hour Crown case involving three police officers as witnesses.
"(Crown counsel) has provided me with the information and initial sentencing decision, but I understand because of the charge and disclosure, it might take more time," Reece's lawyer, Hollis Lucky, told Rodgers.
On May 1, Reece was found guilty of driving while over .08 blood alcohol content after an April 8 incident in Squamish.
