Remembrance Day services planned

Remembrance Day services are planned today at Brennan Park, at the Cenotaph at Stan Clarke Park and at Totem Hall.

Remembrance Day services are planned today at Brennan Park, at the Cenotaph at Stan Clarke Park and at Totem Hall. And to honour the sacrifices made by veterans, a local taxi company is offering a free shuttle service for seniors, veterans, Royal Canadian Legion members and their escorts to and from Brennan Park and the Cenotaph.

Ramsay Anderson, Yellow Cabs (Squamish) Ltd. owner, said the gesture is a way to give back to those who have served their country. For more information, please phone (604) 892-5995 or email [email protected].

The Brennan Park Remembrance Day service begins at 11 a.m., and those wishing to attend are asked to be seated no later than 10:45 a.m. The service is to include a parade by the Royal Canadian Legion Colour Party led by Sergeant-At-Arms Ryan Pedersen and the Black Tusk Caledonia Pipe Band. Also participating will be the Air and Sea Cadets, RCMP, firefighters, ambulance personnel, and Scouts and Guides. The Sea to Sky Singers and the Youth Choir will lead the singing. Services will then move to the Cenotaph for a wreath-laying.

The annual Stawamus Veterans Traditional Gathering and Pow-wow is planned at Totem Hall beginning at 10 a.m. The day's activities will feature a Cenotaph Ceremony at 11 a.m., followed by a traditional pow-wow that features drumming, dancing and a traditional feast. All are welcome, and admission is by donation. Those who have hand drums are asked to bring them and join in.
