**Update: A spokesperson has notified that the rally date has been changed and will now be held Saturday, May 11 at 1 p.m.

Several resident groups have a protest planned for Sunday to rally against Delta council’s decision regarding the Official Community Plan.

The Friends of Ladner Village has partnered with the Facebook group Tsawwassen Voices for Responsible Development, and North Delta Citizens for Responsible Densification to oppose the proposed OCP changes.

A rally will be held this Saturday, May 11 starting at 1 p.m. in Tsawwassen on the east side of Town Centre Mall (weather permitting).

“In spite of overwhelming opposition to the OCP changes, the public hearing process was a farce,” said Friends of Ladner Village spokesperson Bev Yaworski in a news release. “Council basically dismissed residents’ many concerns to fast-track the plan. “The revised plan does not show a focus on more housing co-ops, non-profit housing, and more rentals. This plan would also shut the door on all future public hearings on multi-unit housing and provide only marginal chances for residents to have a say on what happens in their own neighbourhoods.”

Friends of Ladner Village continues to circulate a petition highlighting concerns about high-rise density, traffic, unresolved infrastructure, inadequate heritage protections, and Ladner Village Chisholm Street business evictions.
