The District will be taking requests from Jan. 21 to Feb. 12

Large totes, like this one, are set to cost you more.

If you want to save some money on your utility fees, now’s your chance.

The District is accepting online requests between Jan. 21 and Feb. 12 for residents who want to switch to a small garbage tote. Just go to: squamish.ca/garbage-tote-size-selection-information

Under this program, Squamish residents who use a small tote will not have their solid waste utility fees raised.

Their rates will remain frozen at $200 for 2021.

In December, the District decided to raise solid waste garbage fees for medium and large totes.

In the new year, residents can expect to pay $345, up from $295 in annual fees for the pickup of a medium garbage tote.

For large garbage totes, that number will increase to $540, up from $460.

However, to encourage residents to minimize the amount of trash in their homes, council decided to hold off on raising the fees for people using small garbage totes.
