Road link to Sunshine Coast explored

Highway to connect the Sunshine Coast with the Lower Mainland eyed
Residents on the Sunshine Coast are hoping to skip ferry lineups if a new roadway is built.

The age-old discussion of a road to link the Sunshine Coast to the Lower Mainland, that may connect with Squamish, is once again heating up.

The provincial government has awarded a $250,000 contract to R.F. Binnie & Associates on the feasibility of a connector.

The study will look at a number of potential routes, according to a provincial news release, with concept options ranging from a highway link around Jervis Inlet to direct bridge connections along the coast. The costs and benefits of each option will be assessed and will be compared with existing ferry services, the release states.

“This issue has been a hot topic as long as I can remember, and I look forward to meeting with the communities to hear their perspectives,” said Jordan Sturdy, MLA for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky.

The consultants’ final report to government on this study is expected in late fall.
