Darren Roberts, a self-directed executive with extensive experience in business development, marketing and sales, has been named publisher of Squamish's community newspaper, The Chief.
Roberts, who is currently serving as chief operating officer at Pique Newsmagazine in Whistler, jumps into his new role on Tuesday (Sept. 3). He assumes the role previously held by Laila Michell, who retired in June.
Roberts, who also worked as an advertising consultant at the North Shore News as well as creative director and photographer of his own photo studio, is originally from the U.K. but now prefers to work and play in the mountains of British Columbia. He has a proven track record of increasing sales, achieving market leadership and restructuring operations in both start-ups and growth organizations.
For the past few years Roberts has served as chief operating officer of Pique Newsmagazine. In July, Glacier Media the company that also owns The Chief and the Whistler Question announced that it had acquired Pique from the publication's co-founder and current publisher, Bob Barnett.
In addition to his role as Chief publisher, Roberts will serve as vice president of Whistler Printing Limited Partnership (WPLP), the operating company responsible for The Chief, The Question and Pique.
Roberts lives in Squamish with his wife Sheryl and their newborn son Sullivan.
Sarah Strother, who currently serves as Sea to Sky regional manager for Glacier Media, is taking over as publisher of Pique Newsmagazine and president of WPLP, effective Sept. 1.
