Rockslide occurs on Stawamus Chief

A rockslide has ocurred on the northside of the Stawamus Chief.

A chunk of the granite monolith on the north peak in an area called Northern Lights fell at approximately 11:50 a.m. on Sunday (April 19). The impact of the rock falling could be heard throughout Downtown Squamish. 

First responders are on scene and a geotechnical engineering assessment has been completed. A search of the area is currently underway.

There is no impact to Highway 99 but the Stawamus Chief Provincial Park is closed to hikers. The Mamquam Forest Serivce Road has been closed at Cherry Drive and Highway 99.
