Russia earned two more medals today as both gold and silver went to countrymen Nikita Kriukov and Alexander Panzhinskiy for a photo finish in the cross country individual sprint event at the Whistler Olympic Park.
With Canadians out of final contention, the Russians treated crowds to a breathtaking final stretch as they raced side-by-side with a last millisecond lunge by Kriukov clinching the top stop.
Norway's Petter Northug was more than nine seconds behind to take the bronze.
"When we [Kriukov and his countryman Panzhinskiy] came into the stadium, I looked back and saw that the Norwegians were too far," Kriukov said. "We could fight for the medal."
Norway's Olga Vigen Hattestad and Oeystein Pettersen took fourth and sixth place, while Kazakhstan placed fifth.
