Save the Date: 'The Herring People' film screening—A local herring conservation story

Squamish event showcases local herring conservation efforts.

Want to see some passionate local herring volunteers in action? Well, you are in luck. 

Filmmaker, author, scientist—and Squamish Streamkeeper—Scott Renyard’s film “The Herring People," which features fellow Streamkeepers, will be shown Friday, Nov. 3, at the Squamish Adventure Centre. 

The Internet Movie Database (IMDB) describes the plot as: “A small group of volunteers struggle to save two endangered herring populations only to discover larger forces that are working against them.” 

Several locals are in the film: Jack Cooley, Edith Tobe, John Buchanan, Kim Stegeman-Lowe, Alison Wald, and Eric Andersen, among others.

The door opens at 6 p.m., the film starts at 6:30 p.m. and will run for an hour and 40 minutes. 

After the film, there will be a question and answer period.

There is no fee to see the film, but the companion book, "The Herring People: an illustrated screenplay" will be available for purchase for $30 at the event.
