Here's the week's police briefs

Squamish RCMP are warning residents of an internet scam.

Squamish RCMP are warning of an online scam that’s the subject of an ongoing investigation locally, as well as in the Lower Mainland.

“Young males, thus far it would appear in their 20s, are being befriended on Facebook by suspects who claim to be females of a similar age range,” RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride wrote in a statement. “The online ‘relationship’ moves onto Skype, where the males are encouraged to ‘perform’ in an intimate manner online for their new female friend.

“The relationship quickly deteriorates when the male is then advised that unless he sends money to an account in the Philippines, the video recording of his actions will be placed online.”

Those with information relating to this or any other crimes are encouraged to contact the Squamish RCMP at (604) 892-6100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

At the scene, police located and arrested a 27-year-old Squamish man, well known to them for previous similar crimes. He was found in possession of break-and-enter tools as well as methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Suspect nabbed

On Wednesday, June 4, police received a report of a break-and-enter having been interrupted at a home in the 1200 block of Depot Road. The resident returned home to find a man exiting from a garage window and fleeing. The resident provided a description and another witness reported having seen the suspect board a bus a short distance away. Police arrested a 21-year-old Langley man, who is being charged with break and enter, and obstruction. The suspect also had an outstanding warrant for a break-and-enter in North Vancouver.

Wire stolen

On Thursday (June 5), police received a report that more than 500 metres of copper wire was stolen from light poles along Highway 99 near Darrell Bay. The wire was stolen from underground tubing linking the poles, rendering numerous light poles inoperable. It’s not known when the wire was stolen.

Items swiped

On Thursday (June 5), police received a report of a vehicle having been broken into while it was parked at a pub in the 40000 block of Government Road. Sometime between 5 and 7 p.m., the locked vehicle was entered, apparently by forcing a passenger-side window. Stolen were a black Dell laptop computer and a Surface tablet, with a combined total value of around $3,000. Surveillance video is being examined.

Bike stolen
