The final operating grant for the Sea to Sky School District is nearly $1.3-million more than last year, despite continuing enrolment decline, West Vancouver-Garibaldi MLA Joan McIntyre said in a release this week.
"It is clear that our government's commitment to school boards and to students remains a priority and that key program areas such as K-12 education will continue to see investment despite changing economic circumstances," McIntyre said. "Increasing investment in education provides benefits that enrich the lives of students, teachers and their families."
The Sea to Sky Board of Education reported 4,042 full-time equivalent (FTE) students in 2008/09, a drop of 46 FTE students from the previous year. Since 2000/01, the province has increased funding for the school district by 13 per cent despite a decline in student enrolment of 11 per cent, McIntyre noted, with per-pupil funding increasing by 27 per cent since 2000/2001.
"These funding increases will assist the Board in addressing the needs of students in our district," says McIntyre.
