The Howe Sound Secondary graduating class of 2005 has a variety of fantastic events planned to celebrate Dry Grad. This year's grads are proud to announce that all festivities will be held within the Sea to Sky corridor, assuring the class a successful, alcohol-free event. The fun-filled weekend will take place May 27 and 28 and will begin on Friday night with commencement, also known as "cap and gown night."

Casino night will follow commencement at Brennan Park Recreation Centre. The grads will revel in a night of gambling festivities and good times, all of which being kindly provided by the Squamish Rotary Club.

May 28 will begin with mocktails hosted at Howe Sound Secondary. This event will allow the grads to show off their beautiful gowns and tuxedos, and will include the procession of the grads, lots of picture-taking opportunities, and the chance to socialize with friends and family.

After mocktails, the grads will board the bus and depart for Whistler where they will take a ride up the gondola to Pika's Restaurant, located at the top of Whistler Mountain, for a dinner and dance.

The final festivities will happen after the grads board the bus back to Howe Sound Secondary. At the school there will be an assortment of games and toys, including laser tag and a mechanical bull, accompanied by a three screen video dance.

The grad class will soon be having their largest fundraiser with the help and partnership of Carney's Waste Systems. This year the grads are selling locally-produced compost as an alternative to manure sales. There will be three different kinds of compost available for purchase to ensure you a beautiful garden this coming spring and summer seasons.

"You will notice an improvement in your soil almost immediately, and your plants will become stronger and healthier," says garden columnist Sandra Davis about the product.

Grads are offering the compost for the low rate of $5 a bag, five bags for $20, or a pick-up load for $75 (1.5 yards.) A grad will be coming around your neighborhood in the near future to collect your order, if you wish you can also call Connections at 604-815-4020 to place an order. Please support the grads this year!
