A B.C. resident advocating for more liberal enforcement of marijuana laws is coming to Squamish next week to promote his cause.
Dana Larsen, director of a group called Sensible B.C., will visit Squamish on Wednesday (Aug. 7) as part of a 12-day, 32-town tour to promote The Sensible Policing Act, "which would effectively decriminalize marijuana by stopping B.C. police from making searches or arrests for simple possession," Larsen said in a statement.
The law also calls on the federal government to repeal marijuana prohibition, which would allow B.C. to legally regulate its cultivation and sale, he said.
Larsen, who plans to be at Chef Big D's on Cleveland Avenue on Wednesday at 1 p.m., is trying to register canvassers to collect signatures on a petition supporting the proposed legislation. Beginning Sept. 9, Sensible B.C. will have 90 days to collect signatures from 10 per cent of voters in each of B.C.'s electoral districts to force a province-wide referendum.
