Serial vandals sought

Squamish Detachment received 17 reported cases of mischief to vehicles and property this week. Several of these appear to be related, and 12 occurred overnight on March 28 in the Tantalus Road and Willow Crescent area.

Squamish Detachment received 17 reported cases of mischief to vehicles and property this week. Several of these appear to be related, and 12 occurred overnight on March 28 in the Tantalus Road and Willow Crescent area. Two people of interest have been identified in this senseless vandalism sprees, which caused hundreds of dollars damage to vehicles and buildings. A young adult male and his associate are believed to be responsible. RCMP is requesting anyone with information to contact them at 604-892-6100 or call Crime Stoppers. Police would also request anyone observing this kind of act occurring contact police immediately, as opposed to calling in the following morning or day. That way, patrols may be able to apprehend those responsible in the act.

Nunchucks confiscated

On March 25, police on patrol in the area of Diamond Road and Diamond Head Road located a 21-year-old male at 3 a.m. who was searched in relation to incidents that had occurred in the area. The male was detained with a set of nunchucks hidden in his pants under his shirt. The male was returned to the detachment and later released on a promise to appear in court on May 12 to answer to a charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

Prohibited driver arrested

On March 28 at 10 a.m., a member on patrol observed a vehicle travelling in excess of the speed limit on Highway 99 in Lions Bay. The vehicle was stopped and the 33-year-old male driver was found to be prohibited from driving in Canada until 2012. The driver was arrested and later released on a promise to appear in court on June 9 to answer to the charge.

Unlicenced driver fined

On March 27 at 4:20 p.m., a member on patrol on Highway 99 near Tantalus Range observed a 1980 GMC pick up travelling at high rate of speed northbound. The vehicle was clocked in radar at 126 km per hour and stopped. The 52-year-old male driver was found to be unlicenced since 2005 and was flagged as a vehicle impound candidate. The driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without a licence and speeding and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Tools stolen

On March 26 a locked container situated at Perth Drive and The Boulevard had been broken into overnight and a Stihl chainsaw and a Stihl Cutoff saw were stolen. The tools have identifiable Marchkings and the matter is still under investigation.
