Former Squamish karate instructor Shane Anthony Morrow has pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual assault, according to the provincial court registry in North Vancouver.

Morrow, 40, pleaded guilty to one count of Criminal Code offence 271 – sexual assault – on Thursday, according to the provincial registry.

He first appeared in North Vancouver provincial court Dec. 27 on criminal charges of sexual interference of a person under 16 and sexual assault, according to the court registry. He was released on bail Dec. 30.

Morrow was previously head instructor of the Seiwa Kai Squamish Karate Association, which operated out of Brennan Park Recreation Centre, according to the Seiwa website. The website has since been taken down.

His membership in Karate BC was quickly suspended. The provincial organization announced Dec. 31 that its board of directors had unanimously decided to immediately suspend Morrow’s membership.

Morrow’s next court date is Thursday (June 2), when a pre-sentencing report will be discussed, according to the court registry in North Vancouver.
