The district is holding alternate approval processes for two bylaws.

The first is the public’s opportunity to decide if the district should borrow the money to fund improvements to the fire hall hose tower, the arena and office systems and to replace a fire fleet. The estimated cost of replacements and improvements is $3,022,748, of which $2,359,248 is the amount to be borrowed.

The second alternate approval process is for installing water meters to the water system. The upgrade will cost just over $2 million of which of $1,880,081 is the amount to be borrowed. Debt servicing costs would be funded from a water utility fee increase of approximately $14.56 per household per year. Electors have until September 14 to respond to these bylaws at municipal hall.

With the alternative approval process, the bylaws will proceed unless 10 per cent of eligible voters, or about 1,282 people, register their opposition.

Council passed the first three readings for these bylaws July 21.
