The annual Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program survey results are in for the SLRD. In 2018, the tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent was 109 — or 46,435 litres of gas, for example — compared to 114 the year before, without including the Lillooet landfill, which was -104.03 in 2018 and -119 in 2017. The remaining balance of tonnes of carbon dioxide for the year was 4.97 (or 2,117 litres of gas).
The report notes the SLRD is expected to achieve carbon neutrality in 2019, given the composting levels of 2017. The current tonnage of 4.97, the report said, was because less waste was composted than the year before.
Measures the SLRD took to reduce its impact on green house gas emissions and to become more carbon neutral in 2018 included using more energy-efficient lighting in the SLRD office and Pemberton Community Centre, providing education on how to reduce waste, promoting bike to work week and supporting FireSmart, floodplain mapping and managing forest fuel risks.
