Hospice getting a garden
The Squamish Hospice Society will receive $42,000 for landscaping and gardening.
Renovations at Hilltop House have begun to create a new hospice at Squamish General Hospital, and the society asked for funding to transform a space into a patio and garden for families and patients.
At the April 24 SLRD meeting, the funds were contributed by Area C and Area D, as residents from both are able to use the hospice.
The hospice hopes to be open in July.
Britannia flood maintenance
The SLRD board adopted two bylaws for the Britannia Creek Debris Flood Works Operations and Maintenance Service. On April 17, the participating area was approved by the Area D Director. Last year, the SLRD began a process to assume the ownership and responsibility of debris flood maintenance, which the Britannia Beach Oceanfront Developments Corporation had worked on earlier in 2018. With no completed elector response forms by the deadline in March, the bylaws were adopted at the April 24 meeting and will be included in the 2020 financial plan.
A provincial tenure for a water licence is expected to be granted soon, and the asset transfer between the developer and SLRD can begin.
Britannia Oceanfront Developments
Rezoning and Official Community Plan bylaw amendments passed third reading at the April 24 meeting for the Britannia Oceanfront Developments Corporation.
Next, rights-of-way are required before the bylaws can be adopted. Then the development can apply for the proper permits.
Correspondence from Victoria
Victoria City Council sent several resolutions to the SLRD to consider. The resolutions, which the board received but have not taken any actions on, include support for observed inhalation sites for overdose prevention, support for a safer drug supply, support for promoting and enabling greenhouse gas reductions, and protecting old growth forests.
