Got something to say? This is your chance to weigh in.

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District Regional District is holding a public hearing Monday night on issues that may be of interest to Squamish residents.

Likely of most interest for many is the regional authority’s plan to remove destination resorts from its Regional Growth Strategy Bylaw.

This would create a further hurdle for the proposed Garibaldi at Squamish all-season resort slated for Brohm Ridge.

The SLRD board originally planned on adopting the amendments on Jan. 24, but instead opted to hold this public hearing in Squamish.

Also up for debate Monday night is a rezoning request by Black Tusk Helicopters, which has submitted a rezoning application for an area of approx. 0.165 ha at Echo Lake.

The company operates a commercial recreation tenure on the Crown land and is proposing additional uses for its existing satellite camp that currently consists of a helipad and camping area.

Black Tusk wants to add a cabin primarily for its commercial use that would also be available to the public for overnight stays and as an emergency shelter.

The structure would contain, two bathrooms, one bunkroom that could sleep 10 people, an upper level with kitchen, foyer, lounge, and deck.

The company would also like to add two camping pads to the site as no formal campsites currently exist.

The cabin and decks are all outside the 30-metre riparian assessment area.

The public hearing is scheduled for Monday (Feb. 19) at 7 p.m. at the Sea to Sky Hotel.
