The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District is seeking input for its update to its Regional Growth Strategy, or RGS.
Open houses showing RGS changes will be held, and the public is invited to ask questions and provide feedback.
The high-level document provides an outline of how development would take place in the regional district, and it’s due for its periodic update, which must occur every five years.
Changes that have been proposed are far too numerous to name, but Squamish residents will likely find interest in a couple of areas — affordable housing and transportation.
Proposed changes that have so far passed first reading include changing the definition of affordable housing to bring it in line with BC Housing’s definition.
“Affordable housing means rental or ownership housing priced so that monthly payments are less than 30 per cent of gross household income,” the new proposed definition written in April.
Also part of the proposed changes is a call to examine the possibility of a high-speed rail service, a Sea to Sky regional transit service, and a possible Squamish-Metro Vancouver marine service and carpool lots, among other things.
The open houses will be held in all affected municipalities and the schedule is as follows.
