SLRD to helm creation of an agricultural plan

Suggestion by Area D director Tony Rainbow sparks the plan

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District will be taking the lead in forming an agricultural land plan with some of the farmland in Area D and The District of Squamish.

The SLRD will be taking the lead on creating an agricultural plan for the land residing in the District of Squamish and Electoral Area D.

This decision was made after Area D director Tony Rainbow pointed out that no one has bothered to move forward after information was gathered last year for an agricultural land inventory.

Last year, the District of Squamish and the SLRD partnered to create the inventory.

It was the District that spearheaded this initiative, but since its completion, neither party has made a move to commit staff to begin the next phase, which would be to use the data to create an agricultural plan.

Rainbow suggested that the SLRD take the initiative by committing staff to work on the project.

Both the District and the SLRD have committed $15,000 in their 2018 budgets for the project.
