Small plane has forced landing, airlifted out of Squamish forest

Transport Canada says the privately registered Cessna made a forced landing on Aug. 25.

This isn’t something you see every day.

A small plane has been spotted parked along the Mamquam Forest Service Road in Squamish this week.

Transport Canada, which regulates the safety and security of the civil aviation system in Canada, told The Squamish Chief that it is aware of a privately registered Cessna (C-GAKZ) that  made an emergency landing on Aug. 25, 2023.

According to Flightradar24, C-GAKZ is a 54 year old Cessna 172K Skyhawk.

It made a forced landing due to an engine failure, a Transport Canada spokesperson said.

There were no fatalities or injuries reported to the department.

On Thursday, Aug. 31, locals saw the plane lifted and removed by helicopter.
