The District of Squamish's (DOS) communications manager announced her resignation this week after just six months on the job.
Christie Smith, who previously served as communications and public affairs manager with Telus and Royal Bank/RBC, is to step down from the DOS job effective Aug. 31 to take over as manager of communications with the City of Vancouver, Smith wrote in an email to The Chief on Friday (Aug. 3).
This is a fantastic opportunity that locates me closer to my home, enables me to manage a large team, offers some challenging work, and will allow me to utilize my skills in a larger municipality, Smith wrote.
Smith was hired to fill the newly created position of DOS communications manager in February. During that time she worked on formulating an internal and external communications framework based on a communications plan adopted by the previous council in 2011.
I am very proud of the communications framework the district has embraced during my time here, she wrote. Established communications processes and procedures, combined with a social media presence and forthcoming new website, will ensure the communications plan continues to play a role for years to come.
District employees' intelligence, dedication and commitment will continue ensure the community receives a sustainable, excellent level of customer service.
