A smoky skies bulletin has been re-issued for parts of the Howe Sound region including Squamish.

The alert sent out on Monday, Aug. 21 covers numerous regions across B.C. under smoky skies due to wildfires across the province. The Howe Sound region was noted during the alert, including Squamish, Bowen Island, Horseshoe Bay and Lions Bay. Also included in the alert were Whistler and Pemberton.

Previously, an alert was sent out Saturday.

The warning means that noted areas like Squamish are being impacted or are likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke over the next 24 to 48 hours.

“During a wildfire, smoke conditions can change quickly over short distances and can vary considerably hour-by-hour. Wildfire smoke is a natural part of our environment but it is important to be mindful that exposure to smoke may affect your health.”

The release notes to monitor your symptoms such as a dry cough or sore throat and to stop activity and hydrate if feeling unwell.

“If you are experiencing difficulty in breathing, chest pain or discomfort, or a severe cough, contact your healthcare provider, walk-in clinic, or emergency department. If you are having a medical emergency, call 9-1-1,” the release stated.

The next update is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 22.
