A Dragon’s Den-style event pitting six local entrepreneurs in a crowd-funded competition is planned next week in Squamish.
All six competitors on the Social Enterprise Showdown and Launch Party on Tuesday (June 24) from 7 to 9:30 at the Squamish Adventure Centre have recently completed the Simon Fraser University social enterprise accelerator program, organizers said.
The six — Colleen Myers (Squamish Food Co-op), Patrick Demers (Maples Sugar Shack), Inis LeBlanc (Squamish ReBuild), Alex McKimm (Outdoor Pre-School), Utako Ishii (Beachcomb Whistler) and Jen McGuiness (Green Thumb Technology) — will have eight minutes to pitch their business and win the crowd’s support for a $2,000 prize.
The evening aims to be a fun, high-energy evening with DJ Alec Riddim Fernandez spinning tunes.
Community Futures Howe Sound, Startup Squamish, SFU Community Economic Development, the SFU Radius Beedie School of Business and VanCity are sponsoring the event.
