The backers of Squamish’s oceanfront development are mixing food with business.
The Squamish Oceanfront Development Corporation (SODC), the wholly owned District of Squamish subsidiary that manages the waterfront property, is hosting two public information meetings at upcoming Squamish Farmers’ Markets — Oct. 18 and Oct. 25.
SODC staff, district representatives and members of the development companies, Matthews Southwest and Bethel Lands Corporation will be at the events to answer questions about the upcoming oceanfront rezoning applications and the process ahead.
Last June, the SODC and the two development companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding allowing for the rezoning application for the property to move forward. The rezoning application has been on hold since 2011. It proposes to implement the land uses, building forms and character, transportation network, parks and open spaces and community facilities established in the Squamish Oceanfront Sub-Area Plan.
SODC officials are in the midst of setting a public hearing some time in January, 2015.
