Municipal officials are hunting for a team to take on some “epic” branding.
Residents and business owners are being sought to form its new volunteer Squamish Brand Leadership Team. The group will steer the community’s branding campaign that was recently pieced together by the district’s Brand Development Committee.
“There is so much work to be done to roll it out,” municipal spokesperson Christina Moore said.
Since the beginning of this year, marketing consultant Roger Brooks International has facilitated the community-based committee as it created a branding action plan. Over the next three weeks the group is wrapping up the details.
The new leadership team will be responsible for implementing the plan, Moore said. The branding is to be incorporated into the fabric of community and will include signage and marketing.
“The idea is that we find some very enthusiastic individuals that represent a cross-section of the community,” she said.
Representatives from Tourism Squamish, Downtown Squamish Business Improvement Association, Squamish Chamber of Commerce, Squamish Nation and the district will join those individuals on the team.
On April 11, Squamish residents got a glimpse at the new branding direction when Brooks unveiled some of the committee’s work. After analyzing 300 pages of data and more than 1,100 community survey responses to a district questionnaire, the revamped version focused on Squamish’s multi-sports offerings and incredible scenery. It centered on the theme, “the world’s most epic adventures can be found right here.”
The team will promote and represent Squamish’s brand. Volunteers must be doers not directors, good public speakers and have a thick skin, Moore said.
Those interested in leading Squamish’s brand forward should send letters of 250 words or less to the municipality on why they would be good members. Letters can be submitted to the economic development office via [email protected] by Wednesday, April 30, at 4 p.m.
