The biggest annual event in Squamish has been put off until next year thanks to COVID-19.

Organizers have announced that the Squamish Days Loggers Sports Festival has been postponed until summer 2021.

In a post on Instagram, the Squamish Days Loggers Sports Association said that the reason for this postponement was the recent announcement by provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

Henry recently said that large events drawing crowds over 50 will not be permitted during the summer.

“As you can expect, this announcement is made with a heavy heart,” reads the post. “We appreciate your support and understanding as always, and looking forward to making sure the 2021 festival is twice as much fun and kicked off with the biggest bang yet!”

The annual loggers sports festival has been a long-time landmark event in town that has drawn crowds of thousands and athletes from across the world.

It features skills competitions that hearken back to Squamish’s roots as a logging town.

Eager crowds have flocked to see who was best at wielding chainsaws, axes, saws and more.
