Neighbour-father response knocks down small fire on Third Avenue

Fire chief says no one was hurt and damage is limited to smoke and some items in the house.

A small fire in a house on Third Avenue on Sunday evening was quickly doused by two neighbours and the father of the occupant.

Patricia Wilson, the mother of one of the residents in the house, said that her daughter's father and a neighbour rushed to the scene with fire extinguishers.

Another neighbour came through the window with a garden hose and helped put out the flames.

Earlier, Squamish Fire Rescue Chief Bill Stoner told The Chief received the call at 7:40 p.m. on April 11.

"A neighbour with an extinguisher helped to slow the fire's growth before crews arrived and damage was limited to smoke and contents," said Stoner."A family of three was relocated for the evening, supported by Squamish's Emergency Support Services. There were no injuries to firefighters nor residents."

However, Wilson said her daughter's family wound up sleeping in a relative's house.

Three fire trucks were on scene, as well as support vehicles.

An investigation is expected to be underway at this time.
