Squamish Fire Rescue rushed to beat back a small grass fire that erupted near The Brick Tuesday evening.
The fire was burning just south of The Brick, along Highway 99.
Squamish Fire Rescue Fire Chief Bill Stoner said the call came in at 6:12 p.m.
As of 9 p.m. this evening, southbound traffic on the corner of Highway 99 and Industrial Way is being redirected by police.
Squamish RCMP tell The Squamish Chief that traffic will remain impacted for about three hours.
Meaning it will be at least midnight before it is clear through this stretch as RCMP investigates.
One southbound lane is closed for the portion of the highway — past emergency vehicles — heading southbound from about Industrial Way to Cleveland Avenue.
Officers ask that folks listen to police directions in the area and for the public to steer clear.
Smoke from the blaze has left a light haze hovering over the ground.
