The District of Squamish is bringing old blood to fill the role of new chief financial officer.

On Wednesday (March 31), the District of Squamish announced Joanne Greenlees, who helped form the municipality's financial department from 1977 to 2000, returns to fill the position left vacant when Ralph Hughes resigned Jan. 19.

"We welcome Joanne back to the District of Squamish," said Mayor Greg Gardner in a news release. "Her effective leadership style, knowledge of the district and seasoned financial mind is an enormous asset to our organization."

A Certified General Accountant (CGA), Greenlees brings over 30 years of municipal finance experience to her role. Since 2001, Greenlees has been leading thefinanceteam at Bowen Island, most notably through the start-up of the Bowen Island municipality, incorporating services such as fire, sewer and water improvement districts.

Marsha Collier has been working as acting financial director since Hughes's resignation, struggling to meet the rigours of the budget process, which results in a bylaw that must be adopted before May 15. Greenlees begins herrole asCFO on May 3.
