A Squamish man who crashed his vehicle into the Sea to Sky Hotel 17 months ago has been placed on probation after pleading guilty in connection with the incident.
Darren Alan Grant, 51, pleaded guilty to dangerous operation of a motor vehicle last Tuesday (Dec. 13) in North Vancouver Provincial Court, a court official said.
Squamish RCMP reported at the time that a vehicle was driven into the Sea to Sky Hotel on Dec. 21, 2012. The driver fled the scene, but was arrested shortly thereafter while walking along Diamond Road, The Chief reported. The man, who was treated at Squamish General Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash, was initially charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to remain at the scene, police said.
Grant was sentenced to one year’s probation, during which he is prohibited from driving. He was also ordered to make a $1,000 donation to Sea to Sky Community Services, court officials said.
