A Squamish man was one of two people arrested in West Vancouver after police discovered him with a stolen truck laden with clothing, electronics and personal items.
Late Monday (April 21), West Vancouver Police sifted through a pickup truck stopped in a church parking lot on Taylor Way and Highway 1. Officers determined the truck had beenstolen from Burnaby two weeks earlier. The vehicle was also loaded with personal items, Cst. Jeff Palmer said.
“It was just a load of different things; high-value sunglasses, computers, laptops, backpacks,” he said.
The 34-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman from Surrey were arrested without incident. The suspects were held in custody at the West Vancouver Police headquarters before their first appearance at the North Vancouver Provincial Court on Tuesday (April 22).
Police are recommending several charges, including possession of stolen property over $5,000, theft, identity fraud, breach of a conditional sentence order and obstruction of a police officer. The suspects’ names were not released pending Crown approval of the charges.
The items were seized and are being processed, Palmer said. Officers are trying to figure out whether the stolen goods are connected to a spree of thefts from vehicles that occurred this month, he noted. The personal property that has been identified seems to have come from the Lower Mainland, Palmer said.
“Who knows how far they wandered?” he said of the suspects.
