Squamish Valley Music Festival goers are facing the music of traffic jams on the Sea to Sky Highway.
On Thursday (Aug. 8), vehicles are at a near standstills south along Highway 99 past Shannon Falls, said Larry Paradis, Miller Capilano Sea to Sky manager of operations.
It's sort of like Pemberton was a few years ago, he said of the concert in 2008.
The company that helps maintain the highway hasn't been asked to step in yet, he said. Officials ask that drivers follow the rules of the road to maintain safety. Traffic lights in Squamish have been set to maximize north/south flow along the road, Paradis said.
We are trying to keep the road safe, he said.
Loggers Lane and Finch Drive will be closed to general traffic throughout the music festival, District of Squamish spokesperson Christina Moore said. Residents and local businesses of that specific area can get permits to enter the lane by calling 604-733-7171. Citizens with permits are encouraged to enter via Finch Drive.
Visitors to Brennan Park Recreation Centre will continue to have access to the facility, however parking will be limited, Moore warned. She encourages users to leave their vehicles at home and opt for a bicycle.
The music festival's parking will be confined to the former Winter Olympics parking lot at Queens and Industrial Way. Festival goers will then walk to the concert, Moore said noting drivers should be vigilant of pedestrians.
A free bike valet service will be available at the rec centre.
