Squamish officers issue 29 tickets for school zone infractions

Drivers were penalized for traffic violations related to driving in school zones or near buses.

On Sept. 14, officers ticketed drivers passing stopped school buses with lights on, speeding in school zones, and distracted driving.

With classes in session, officers issued 29 tickets to motorists related to traffic violations involving school zones or buses.

On Sept. 14, School District 48, BC Highway Patrol-Squamish, and Squamish RCMP teamed up for back-to-school road safety enforcement work.

“The multi-agency work done today was very successful,” said Const. Matt Berinbaum, BC Highway Patrol-Squamish member, in a news release. “But as successful as we were today, drivers need to obey driving laws every day, which ultimately helps keep students safe.”

Officers ticketed drivers passing stopped school buses with lights on, speeding in school zones, and distracted driving.

RCMP say during the morning and afternoon bus routes, officers issued four tickets to drivers who failed to stop for a school bus. 

Throughout the late morning and afternoon, police issued:

• 21 tickets for speeding in a school zone;
• Two tickets for using an electronic device while driving;
• One ticket for failing to display ‘N’ sign; and
• One ticket for failure to obey traffic control device.
