The last week of March saw 174 files for the Squamish RCMP. Nineteen were false alarms, while there were five crash investigations and eight files dealing with speeding.
Driver injured
A driver was taken to the Squamish General Hospital with minor injuries after an apparent brake failure on March 26. Squamish RCMP said that the driver was going through a green light at the intersection of Mamquam Road and Glenalder Place when another vehicle, likely experiencing brake failure, hit the injured driver's car.
Lock your doors
On March 25, a woman reported her purse was missing from her apartment on Pemberton Avenue. She'd left her back door open while walking her dog, and noticed the black leather purse was gone when she returned.
"Be sure to lock your doors when you leave your house and don't keep keys, purses, or other valuable items beside entrances to your homes," a Squamish RCMP press release states.
No fires!
An illegal bonfire by the Stawamus River was put out by Squamish Fire Rescue on March 25, at 7:45 p.m.
Fire officials told the people at the fire it was not allowed. Four days later, RCMP responded to another report of a fire under the train bridge near downtown. Fires that are not allowed on public property in Squamish — including beaches and riverfronts — unless approved by a District of Squamish permit.
Shed damage
On March 27, someone complained the gardening shed at the Garibaldi Community Gardens was damaged. When they investigated, police said it appeared someone was living or storing items in the shed. They found bags filled with clothing and evidence of burning candles. The Squamish RCMP ask the public to contact them if they see anything concerning near the garden.
Don't shoot
After receiving a report of gunfire, believed to be target shooting, on March 30, Squamish RCMP are reminding the public that Paradise Valley is within District of Squamish limits and does not allow target shooting. Officers were unable to find anyone shooting when they went to investigate the reports.
