Items stolen from vehicles

Tools, an iPhone, and a debit card that was later used for fraud were among the items stolen from vehicles from Sept. 26 to Sept. 22.

The thefts occurred from three vehicles, all of which were unlocked.

Police are asking residents to lock their cars.

Stolen car

A  man from Surrey has been arrested after a car was stolen from Lions Bay.

Police say the 2016 Kia Optima was likely used in theft from autos in the Lions Bay and Furry Creek areas that day.

The vehicle was later located in Surrey and RCMP made the arrest.

Watch your speed in the school zones

Police are making sure drivers are obeying school zone speed limits.

RCMP say they’re conducting enforcement in school areas.

Speed limits in school zones are 30 kilometres per hour and run from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Foot patrols after drugs found

In response to drugs found in school zones, as well as mischief and property crime, police say they’ll be stepping up their presence in Dentville and downtown.

There will be more foot patrols in those areas, RCMP say.

Snow tires required

It’s time to put your winter tires back on.

On Oct. 1, those tires will be required for all vehicles travelling the Sea to Sky Corridor.

A legal winter tire is defined as having at least 3.5 mm of tread depth and marked with the letters M + S (Mud and Snow all season tires) or the 3-peaked mountain/snowflake symbol (or both) on the sidewall of the tires.

Police say they’ll be checking tires.

If your vehicle is found not to have the proper tires between Oct. 1, 2019 and April 30, 2020, it could be costly. The driver can be fined and the vehicles towed from the roadway.
