Five speeders nabbed

Five drivers lost their driving privileges due to excessive speeding this past week. These drivers had their cars impounded for seven days, were issued violation tickets and got three penalty points on their driving records. They also had to find rides home after being stopped by Squamish RCMP and Sea to Sky Traffic Services officers.

Decrease in illegal campfires

Though RCMP responded to three calls of campfires this past week. Campfire call volume was significantly down from last week, requiring less police and fire resources. The RCMP thank Squamish for respecting the fire bylaw that was in effect at the time.

The District of Squamish has recently cancelled the campfire ban, but officers are asking the community to continue safe practices, ensure you have a permit, and never leave a fire unattended.

Tire theft

Thieves stole two tires that were mounted on a Mazda 3.

The alleged theft occurred between April 21 and 22 from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m., in the 39000-block of Discovery Way. The tires are Michelin Premier All-Season and 205/50R17 in size. The tire rims are stock.

Frauds by e-transfer

Fraudsters are accessing personal banking information and then intercepting the e-transfers from victims.

Police say they responded to two separate cases of this crime this past week.

RCMP remind people to report to police and respective banks if they are a victim of fraud. Also, notify Equifax at www.consumer.equifax.ca.

Go to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca for tips for avoiding being duped.

Boat and ride safe

With motorcycle and boating season upon us, RCMP is reminding bikers and boaters to use the required equipment and obey all laws. RCMP will be doing motorcycle and safety campaigns in May to encourage and support safe activity.
