Here are the Squamish RCMP detachment's police briefs for the week of Dec. 21 to 27.
Car crash
On Dec. 23, a driver crashed into the ditch on Highway 99 north of the Big Orange Bridge.
Squamish Fire Rescue extracted the driver from her vehicle, and paramedics transported her to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries. According to the Squamish RCMP, officers determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol and served her a 24-hour driving prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act.
Car stolen
On Dec. 25, a car was reported stolen from a local gas station at Highway 99 and Cleveland Avenue.
When the owner was inside the store, the thief stole the car.
The car's global positioning tracker notified the owner of the car's location and Squamish RCMP worked with West Vancouver Police Department to locate and arrest the suspect, who was released from custody with a future court date.
Ski gear stolen
Also on Christmas night, police investigated a report of theft from the parking lot of a local hotel in the 39400-block of Discovery Way that happened sometime between 8:45 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Thieves stole an unattended ski bag that included boots, a helmet, goggles, and gloves, with a total value of about $1,500.
Fraud
A local was a victim of fraud and lost $3,500.
A fraudster posed as the unsuspecting victim's boss and had the victim buy gift cards. The person convinced the victim that the cards were for employee gifts and sent him the card codes. In addition to reporting the incident to police on Dec. 23, the victim contacted his bank and the employer's fraud department.
