Rotating strikes have affected 52 cities and towns across the country

Squamish’s postal workers resumed work after going on strike on Monday.

Yesterday, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers said on Facebook that Squamish employees were no longer on strike.

The job action is part of a series of rotating strikes taking place throughout the country, including multiple parts of B.C.

“We are working hard to reach an agreement with the assistance of the special mediator,” reads a news release from Canada Post, posted on Oct. 31.

“We apologize to our customers and will continue to work to reduce the resulting delays.”

Since Oct. 22, CUPW’s rotating strikes have shut down Canada Post’s operations in 52 cities and towns across the country.

At certain points, the job action has shut down the Crown corporation’s three largest processing facilities in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal for up to 48 hours.

It’s estimated that these plants process a combined one million parcels and packets a day for communities across the country.

Canada Post said today that there’s a backlog of over 150 trailers in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal of items waiting to be unloaded and processed, with more arriving every day.
