Squamish residents are hoping to make the sound of applause throughout town a regular thing every evening.
That’s because they’re hoping to make a commotion loud enough that every healthcare and essential business worker in the district knows that folks appreciate the work they’re doing in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The idea started off in Vancouver, and a popular video showed shouts and claps of appreciation echoing throughout the entire West End neighbourhood.
Since then, some locals have been trying to import the idea to Squamish.
“Lets spread some love each night to show some appreciation towards our front line workers who are working tirelessly to ensure we stay safe,” reads the event page for Sea to Sky Applause. “This includes nurses, doctors and paramedics, along with our essential businesses. We cannot THANK YOU and your families enough.”
The first round of applause is scheduled for March 23 at 7 p.m.
Organizers are hoping it’ll become a nightly occurrence.
