Lock out theft

Police are reminding residents that no neighbourhood in Squamish is immune to vehicle break-ins after Squamish RCMP were called to a complaint of theft from a vehicle around midnight on July 19.

A resident’s unlocked car parked in the 1000-block of Jay Crescent had been rummaged through. Some loose change was the only thing missing, but all residents should lock their vehicles and remove valuables overnight, police say.

Saying no to RCMP drug tests will cost you

A driver was arrested and is prohibited from driving for 90 days after refusing a drug test.

On July 17, Squamish RCMP responded to a complaint of an erratic driver at approximately 9:40 p.m. on Cleveland Avenue at Highway 99. Police found the man who seemed drug-impaired. The driver failed a standard field sobriety test, was arrested for impaired driving, and then refused to provide a urine sample once back at the detachment. As a result, the driver is prohibited from driving for 90 days, had his car impounded for 24 hours, and will attend court to deal with his charge.

Fraud

A local was the victim of fraud after cheques were stolen from his truck, police say. On May 27, the victim's work truck was stolen from the 38000-block of Hemlock Avenue. Recently, the resident reported cheques he had in the truck before it was stolen were fraudulently used. Police say they have seen an increase in cheque fraud, and remind residents to keep track of old cheques and dispose of them appropriately if you do not use them anymore.

B&E and theft

Sometime between July 1 and July 15, a suspect cut open a lock on a storage locker at 1002 Industrial Place and stole about $2,000 worth of tools, snowmobile parts, and a customized surfboard. Police are continuing to investigate this file and are asking anyone with information to contact the Squamish RCMP.

Wildlife Act Enforcement

On July 19, Squamish RCMP’s seasonal enforcement team patrolled Spit Road to enforce Wildlife Act Regulations. Members checked 14 vehicles, and issued two tickets to two people who were illegally camping. Members cleared the area and provided resource information of where to camp within Squamish.
