Law enforcement officials are encouraging anyone who has been sexually assaulted to reach out in whatever way they feel comfortable.
Survivors and witnesses can contact the Sea to Sky General Investigation Section.
This is a specialized unit that investigates major crimes, including sex crimes.
“Recently, this unit received very limited third-hand information alluding to sexual assaults of younger females age range from 14 to 18,” reads a news release.
“Police wish for potential victims and witnesses to know they have various options in seeking information to make informed decisions about reporting and support systems available.”
The release notes that Victim Services staff know the system, resources available and how to help.
Victim Services folks can provide support by talking in person, by phone, or email.
Reports can be anonymous.
Another resource for sexual assault survivors is Howe Sound Women’s Centre, where staff can provide support and offer resources.
Victims can remain anonymous.
The Centre has a 24-hour sexual assault response support line and has trained third-party report-takers.
(The crisis line is: 1-877-890-5711)
Third-party reporting is an alternative for those aged 19 and over to report indirectly to the police anonymously and if their safety is not at risk.
Call or text the Traverse Project 24/7 Support Line: 604-389-9168 for this option.
“Those who are targets and witnesses of a crime need to know supports and resources are available, and we encourage people to reach out directly in ways most comfortable for both their physical and emotional wellness,” said Cpl. Angela Kermer, Sea to Sky RCMP media relations officer.
