RCMP responded to a person in distress inside their residence in downtown Squamish on Tuesday night at about 10 p.m.

On the evening of  Oct. 19, local officers, along with the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team and police dog service, came to assist in the case.

During that time, officers shut down part of the Loggers Lane area of downtown Squamish.

The ERT managed to get the person outside and first responders ensured the person received proper care, police said in a news release sent out mid-day Wednesday.

“We’d like to thank residents from the local area who listened to police direction for their own safety,” said Staff Sgt. Gareth Bradley, who was at the scene, in the release.

“Because people in the immediate area listened to police direction, we knew they were safe, and it gave our specialized teams space to do their needed work.”

Squamish RCMP also thanked local partners Fire and Rescue and Emergency Health Services for their support, and the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team, a support unit with specialized training for situations as the one presented, the release states.
