A beloved Squamish RCMP holiday ritual has been cancelled due to COVID-19.
Police had planned to hold their annual Cram the Cruiser event in support of Community Christmas Care on Nov. 21, but that will not be happening anymore.
Christmas Care delivers care packages to people in need every December, and last year it distributed 292 hampers.
In lieu, Squamish RCMP is encouraging members of the public, if possible, to donate monetarily directly to Community Christmas Care on their website http://www.communitychristmascare.com.
“With the current economic situation due to the global pandemic, Community Christmas Care anticipates that more individuals will likely request assistance this year,” reads a news release from the RCMP.
“The Squamish RCMP is sad that Cram the Cruiser was cancelled this year, but we understand that given the current state of the pandemic that it’s not safe. We’re hopeful that the situation will be different next year, so that we’re once again able to run Cram the Cruiser.”
The Squamish Chief office on Second Avenue is also a drop off location for Community Christmas Care.
