Two Squamish residents face charges involving identity theft in a West Vancouver Police investigation of hundreds of stolen and fraudulent documents.
On Wednesday, Oct. 22, a male and female suspect were tracked to a motel in the 2900 block of Boundary Road in Burnaby, during an operation carried out by the West Vancouver Police Special Projects and Operations Team. An arrest warrant involving an earlier Squamish RCMP investigation for the female suspect was executed, West Van police stated in a press release.
Following further investigation search warrants were obtained for a suspect’s vehicle and a room within the hotel. Investigators recovered a large quantity of suspected stolen mail, credit and other identity cards, the release stated. Police also found a number of suspected stolen tablet computers, smartphones and other electronic devices.
The suspects were arrested. They were held at the West Vancouver Police Headquarters for a first court appearance on Thursday, Oct. 23.
The trio faces a total of 10 charges. Squamish resident Kimberly McSweeney, 23, faces three counts of possession of property obtained through crime, one count of identity theft and one count of personation with intent.
Squamish resident Shawn David Lundrigan, 32, is charged with two counts with two counts of possession of property obtained through crime and one count of identity theft. The suspects have remained in custody pending a further court appearance on Monday, Oct. 27.
“The investigation is ongoing,” Cst. Jeff Palmer stated in the release. “Additional charge recommendations are likely.”
The allegations have not been proven in court.
