For the past few weeks, Squamish has been crawling with detectives and floundering novelists.
The community played host to a stream of television productions. Last month, Squamish felt the chill of CBC's one-hour adventure series Arctic Air. The show, staring Adam Beach and Pascale Hutton, centres around a maverick airline and the unconventional family who runs it.
The next crew to tune into Squamish was the made-for-TV film Far From Home. Starring Barry Watson, the drama follows a novelist who returns to his hometown and confronts some unresolved issues. Filming for the flick is scheduled to finish this week, the District of Squamish's film and events manager, Devon Guest said on Monday (Oct. 7).
"We've got another network TV series coming down the pipe for the next two weeks," she noted.
CTV's second season of Motive is set to move into town. The Canadian cop drama features Kristin Lehman as detective Angie Flynn.
Since Guest stepped into her municipal role last month, she said she's dealt with one filming crew a week - varying from TV shows to films and advertising. So far this year, 19 production were completed in Squamish.
The district is wrapping up its project to update Squamish's location list on the B.C. Film Commission's website, municipal spokesperson Christina Moore said. There's a bit of money left over in the kitty dedicated to capturing Hollywood dollars, she noted.
"We have been working on developing the film resources online," Moore added.
In 2012, district officials estimated the industry pumped approximately $1.5 million into the community. The year boasted seven productions generating 90 days of shooting.
As an event producer herself, Guest said she's looking forward to working with producers to bring the best shows and events to town.
