Squamish SAR: Search underway for missing teen near Shannon Falls

Two Sea to Sky Gondola trails closed during search; everyone asked to avoid the area.

The search continues for 18-year-old Oluwafifehanmi Fashola, who was reported missing on May 21 in the Shannon Falls and Sea to Sky Gondola area. 

The Sea to Sky Gondola has shared on their social media that the Sea to Summit Trail and The Climb are "closed until further notice to comply with an ongoing Search and Rescue activity."

"We kindly ask everyone to avoid these areas during this time. We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding," reads their Facebook post.

Squamish Search and Rescue and the Sea to Sky RCMP- Squamish are currently searching for a missing person in the Shannon Falls and Sea to Sky Gondola area.

According to RCMP, 18-year-old Oluwafifehanmi Fashola —who may go by the name of Peter— was reported missing on May 21, while hiking with friends around the Shannon Falls area.

Fashola "was was last heard from the evening of May 21."

Squamish SAR said via a social media post that "Fashola was last seen in the Upper Shannon Falls area, possibly near the Sea to Summit Trail."

"We are asking for anyone hiking in the area to please keep an eye out for Peter," reads the SSAR Instagram post.

Fashola is from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and was last seen wearing black jogger pants with a white stripe and brown shirt.

He is described as a black male, 5 foot 10 inches tall (178 cm) and weighs approximately 186 pounds (84 kilograms).

"Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Fashola is urged to contact the Sea to Sky RCMP- Squamish at 604-892-6100, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS)," said a spokesperson for the RCMP.
