Squamish Scouts presented with the Duke of Edinburgh gold award

Zach Stubley and Leon Stubley are recipients of the prize.

A local scout was presented with the Duke of Edinburgh gold award by the duke himself, Prince Edward, on April 28.

The award was given to Zach Stubley of the 4th Squamish Scouts. Leon Stubley was also due to go but couldn't get time off his nursing course to attend, according to Jeremy Stubley, group administrator for the 4th Squamish Scouts.

“The award was the culmination of three years’ hard work in the areas of community service, physical activity, learning new skills, a residential project and a self-directed adventurous journey of over five days,” reads a statement from Jeremy.

The presentation was at the Fairmont Pacific Rim, and there were 34 youth from across Canada in attendance.

Zach has been a member of Squamish Scouts from age five and has achieved this award through his time in the Venture section.
