Squamish Terminals joins 'Green Marine'

Squamish Terminals (SQT) has signed on as a participant to Green Marine, North America's largest voluntary environmental program for the maritime industry.

Squamish Terminals (SQT) has signed on as a participant to Green Marine, North America's largest voluntary environmental program for the maritime industry.

Green Marine, founded in 2007, encourages ship owners, ports, terminals and shipyards to go beyond regulatory requirements aimed at improving environmental performance and sustainability. Green Marine's success is based on a five-year track record of participating companies demonstrating improved environmental performance, SQT officials wrote in a statement issued on Monday (April 8).

Squamish Terminals is a regular participant in the Squamish Estuary Management Committee and hosts the annual Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup in Squamish. The company strives for continuous improvement in its environmental performance by seeking ways to reduce risks, officials said.

Green Marine's evaluation and reporting system will allow Squamish Terminals to benchmark its environmental performance. It is also an excellent way to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability, said David Bolduc, Green Marine executive director.
